Inspiration comes in many forms.
As an artist, occasionally, you’re lucky enough to find a client who inspires you as much as your work inspires them.
Inspiration comes into your life in varying guises. For the first ten years of my journey, it seemed to pivot on historical references. For the next chapter (from the release of Untopia), it started to lean more into feeling. Creating my own narrative or story felt more than correct. There is something in the original word that has started to feel more “important” to me as an artist than previous references.
Jacqueline has become one of my biggest supporters. Through the feeling of reciprocity, I sat one afternoon with the sunshine streaming through my windows and started to scribe a recipe. Imagining an olfactory thank you for all her support and how that would look.
I managed to procure some coveted Bulgarian Rose, and oh my, it really sang its purity with each soft inhale. It needed amber in its base to platform its purity in a grounded way. Necessary.
Then the smallest accord of hay, tobacco and coumarin with 3 drops of sandalwood called for attention from the shelf. Velvetide, oakmoss and (surprisingly) coconut were next. The overarching protagonist absolutely deserved centre stage as the rose begged for her encore over and over.
I created from a new place of purity and understanding. This was a calling from a newfound place within, and the results? Only Jacqueline could tell you.
