The Scoop

Jonathan Ward candles are hand poured using a certified organic wax blend. Complex fragrances delivered in the cleanest way. British craftsmanship, global spirit.

The 2019 Jonathan Ward Seasonal candle is Inspired by Lucien Olivier (1838 - 1883) the Belgian chef and owner of Moscow’source s Hermitage Restaurant: described as one of the great historic restaurants of the world, and the birthplace of French-Russian cuisine. Our mantra, as ever, is innovation, not replication and in this particular scent we capture the energy and history of one of the first Christmas puddings, full of Russian decadence with an elegant European twist, piqued with history. This is a scent that while a noble nod to Noel, is something that would be evocative of the Winter season itself and not out of place on a wintry February day.

We explored the hand carved tree trunk hiding holes that acted as early fridges with notes of agar wood, cypress and Peru Balsam in the base merged with Russian leather, coffee absolute, and the ever seasonal frankincense and myrrh. The deeply sensual wood and leather notes edged with dark molasses. The heart notes re-define gourmand with nectar of majhool dates and ripe fig, plum and prune. A sprinkling of dill seed, anise and pink pepper punctuates the fragrance with a festive flourish of premium cognac and muscat. The top notes are made up of almond, subtly accented with grains and seeds, and fresher notes of saffron, spearmint and bitter clementine peel.
